Like all villages, neighborhoods and communties, The Lift Kids Village is not just about one thing.; it is a combination of the necessary elements and conditions it takes "to raise a child". A village is not a water project although, villages must have clean water. It's not just a school, although all villages and kids need education, It's not just about building a clinic, although all people need healthcare; food; shelter; employment; family support; love.....................you get the picture! A village requires ALL the conditions "it takes to raise a child", not just one part. All component parts make up the whole of "the village".
Sometimes one or several of the necessary conditions are present in existing villages. Many times we "partner" with other non-profit organisations or NGO's that specialize in one component or the other. In all cases, we assemble the requisite teams and organizations to ensure all conditions are present to make up a viable SUSTAINABLE, village.
1 Infrastructure: food, clothing, shelter, water:preferably rain water harvesting, and solar energy.
2 Healthcare: basic sanitary conditons for childbirth, immunization, and basic medicine (or mosquito nets) to treat or prevent malaria, cholera, HIV-AIDS, etc.
3 Education: basic education that focuses on self-sufficiency in Nos. 1 & 2 above and reading, writing, mathematics and science. Our education focuses on long-term, sustainable living skills, green technologies, environmental sciences, etc. which lead to long-term career opportunties for a sustainable future.
4 Hospitality: all Lift Kids Villages include a guest house to provide hands-on learning opportunites for volunteers, donors, students, teachers and professionals from around the world....... IN THE VILLAGE! not down the road or in the city or in a fancy, tourist hotel. The small, simple, clean, guest house is great for everyone. It teaches hospitality and enables real, close-up, experiential learning while living in the village. close to, and in the same manner as all other people living in the village........Best of all, the guest house generates revenues to cover the operating expenses of the village. For more information, please refer to our Code of Ethics for all travelers and students who visit Lift Kids Villages.
5 Long-term Economic Viability: all Lift Kids Villages include the start-up funding of small community-owned businesses that will generate sufficent revenues to cover the operating expenses of the village components and make the village financially self-sustaining.
