United World Campaign

On Sunday, May 23, 2010, Lift Kids launches its outreach initiative - Lift Kids United World Campaign - at the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.

The day-long celebration will feature youth performances, videos, guest appearances, artists, workshops, music, dance and information booths. At 6:00 p.m., the Minnesota Lynx take the court against Tulsa.

Opening Ceremonies

The Native American Community opens with drum, dance and traditional customs presided over by their leaders - welcoming all and introducing leaders and performers from other cultures.

Robyne Robinson of Fox 9 News will emcee the Opening Program as Somali World Peace Day unfolds and the celebration continues.

Somali World Peace Day

Somali-Minnesotans stand in unity with their brothers/sisters and will showcase Somalis’ culture of peace and call for their unity to achieve a lasting peace in Somalia.

With the partnership of many local businesses and non-profit organizations, Somali-Minnesotans will declare on May 23rd, “Somali World Peace Day”

Village Summit

Lift Kids village and campaign leaders, as well as community representatives will be present  throughout the day to meet and discuss with you their various activities within our community locally and abroad.

Our meeting area will be on the Hospitality Suites level of the Target Center.

A break dance extravaganza hosted by James Everett and others will be an ongoing event througout the day.

It will be held in conjunction with the Urban Stage on the Skyway level of the Target Center and featuring hip-hop, spoken word, r&b, and many performers.

Sunday, May 23rd

Enter Target Center through the First Avenue entrance between 6th & 7th Streets (600 Avenue North)

Arrival time for Opening Program Participants: 10:30am

Arrival time for all other performers: 11:30am

 

Everyone needs to have purchased a voucher in advance or purchase a ticket at the door. Your ticket will have a seat assignment, however noon to 4pm is open seating.  Vouchers will be available for $5 at the entrance for purchase of a special balanced meal for kids.

 

Food: There is a $5 meal available.  Vouchers for this meal will be available for purchase at the entrance.  100% beef hot dog, yogurt, chips and drink available at concessions.  No bag lunches are to be brought into the arena.  You are allowed to leave the arena to eat at other locations up until 5pm.  There are numerous restaurants within walking distance.


Costumes and Performing Attire: If possible, please come dressed and prepared for the day.  If practical we invite you to stay in your attire for the day.  A secure dressing area will be available to change and leave personal effects on the main floor level.

 

Equipment: There will be a secure place to store musical instruments and performance related items.

Footwear: No hard-heeled footwear is allowed on basketball court (Main Floor) and no soles that could leave scuff marks.

Directions:

North: Take 35W south to the Washington Avenue exit. Take a right on Washington Avenue and proceed up to 1st Avenue and take a left. Take 1st Avenue to 6th Street. Target Center will be on your right.

South: Take 35W north to the Downtown Exits and follow the 5th Avenue Exit. Take a left on either 7th Street. Proceed to 1st Avenue, Target Center will be on your right.

East: Take 94 West to the 11th Street Exit. Follow 11th Street. Turn right on to Hennepin Avenue. Turn left on 7th Street. Target Center will be on your right.

West: Take 394 East and exit 6th Street. Proceed one block to 1st Avenue. Target Center will be on your right.

NOTE: Due to recent construction and the opening of Target Field, please pay close attention to signs and changes in traffic routing aroung Target Center.

 

Parking:

There are a wide variety of parking options in downtown Minneapolis.

ABC/Hawthorne Ramps: There are 7,000 parking spaces adjacent to Target Center in the ABC & Hawthorne Ramps. With access directly from I-394 and I-94, these ramps may fill quickly and empty slowly - useful for guests staying long after events.

Downtown Parking: There are nearly 25,000 parking spaces in 38 parking lots and ramps throughout downtown, with most providing a short walk or convenient bus and LRT connections to Target Center.

On-street Parking: There are limited on-street, meter-controlled parking spots throughout downtown with pedestrian and transit access to Target Center.

Public Transportation:

Target Center is near several Metro Transit bus routes and one block away from the Warehouse District light rail transit station. Visit www.metrotransit.org for more information.

PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING: There will be an increased security presence both inside and outside the Target Center.

Fans entering the Target Center may be subject to security checks by metal detecting hand wands. Briefcases and pocketbooks will be allowed in the Target Center, but will be inspected at all entrance gates.
